Saint John’s is able to carry out its mission thanks to the generosity of the hundreds of volunteers who provide over 40,000 hours of service each year. We could not survive without this generous outpouring of time and talent.
Please be sure to schedule your volunteer time in advance. Contact our Volunteer Coordinator today and let them know what day works best for you. Please note: there are no weekend volunteer opportunities.
Here are popular volunteer activities
- Serving lunch during our Day Services Program
Saint John’s provides over 325 meals each weekday at noon, to homeless men. For scheduling volunteers, see our Lunchtime Volunteer Instructions.
- Mail Room
Help sort and distribute mail and toiletries to the more than 900 men registered at Saint John’s Hospice in the mailroom program.
- Other Opportunities
Sorting Gifts (seasonal)
Other ways to help
- Schools, Confirmation, Youth Ministry
Please note that Saint John’s cannot accommodate on site volunteer service for children under the age of 18. However, there are wonderful ways to teach young people about the joy of service to God’s beloved poor. Just choose a time of the year that works for you. Plan a collection with a class or classes, and have the children write notes or greeting cards to attach to the items. For details on this and other off-site opportunities, please contact the Saint John’s Volunteer Coordinator
- For Our Casserole Parishes
Just gather some items (don’t forget the guys when you are going through your closets) and take them to your Casserole drop-off location. These items will be picked up along with the casseroles.
